What should I expect during my first massage therapy visit?
If you haven’t already done so, your massage therapist may require you to fill out the health history/Intake form. It is important to list all health concerns, allergies and medications.
Do I have to listen to music during my massage?
Absolutely not! If you have music that you listen to at home and find if relaxing, bring it with you for your massage session. If you prefer silence, tell your massage therapist.
How much clothing should I remove for a Massage?
Typically, you can undress to your level of comfort. Many people prefer to keep their underwear on during a massage, while other prefer to be nude. You can ask your massage therapist before getting changed
Should I make conversation during the Massage?
Some people prefer to talk throughout the massage, but don’t feel as though you have to make conversation with the massage therapist. Many people will close their eyes and relax. Do be sure to speak up if you feel too cold or hot, are in pain, or you forgot to mention a health issue.
How often should I get a Massage?
Have a massage once in awhile is better than none. However if your looking to address a specific condition, then it’s recommended to go more frequently at first and then slowly taper down. Discuss with your massage therapist.
Is there a circumstance or injury where I shouldn’t have a massage?
Yes! There are contraindications when a massage should not be performed: an acute injury, an open wound, when an athlete is feverish, or prior to being 12 weeks pregnant.
Is there anything as too much pressure?
Yes. A therapeutic massage can sometimes be intense, but is should never be painful. If your feeling pain tell your massage therapist at the time.
